Becoming The Change: Compassion Is What Is Needed Now

“There is no better compass than compassion.”

-Amanda Gorman

Drivers who are lost on the road have the luxury of typing their current location into Google Maps and/or Waze which helps them reroute their course towards their desired destination. Those that enjoy camping utilize a compass while out in the woods so that it can provide them a sense of direction to find their way towards the endgame of their journey. In essence both provide a sense of direction towards their purpose.

In today’s quote poet and speaker Amanda Gorman’s message focuses on the importance of compassion and the role it serves. It is the compass that helps us understand the feelings and emotions of others. It is the willingness to take action in order to help alleviate someone’s suffering or discomfort.

If compassion is our compass then I believe it will point us in the direction of becoming our best selves. It serves as a beacon to becoming more socially aware of those around us. My sincere belief is we were put on this earth to serve others in whatever capacity we are able to. It does not mean monetary only as giving your time, dedication and presence to people is just as priceless of a service. If we can do this each and everyday, then in the long run it will show that we are being guided in the right direction towards making this world a better place.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards becoming more socially aware?
