“No matter how far away from yourself you may have strayed, there is always a path back. You already know who you are and how to fulfill your destiny.”
-Oprah Winfrey
Throughout our lives we come to certain forks in the road where we may be overcome with feelings of being lost and unsure as to what our next move is or even if we are on the right path. I am here to tell you that this is ok and totally normal. I didn’t think so as I experienced the same periods of uncertainty which left me stressed and longing to be a 5 year old again without a care in the world. It still happens now.
Experiences and the fear of the unknown send us spiraling into these states of panic and unrest. As Oprah Winfrey reminds us in today’s quote, no matter how off course we may feel that we are in our journey to becoming of best self and reaching our true potential, there is always a path back. And the key? We already know who we are. To know thyself is to love thyself.
No one knows you better than you. Now you may be thinking, I don’t know who I am. And that’s ok. I think when we struggle with knowing who we are, it comes down to knowing and understanding this current version of you that you see in the mirror right now. It isn’t what we are used to because we aren’t who we were a day, a week, a month or even a year ago. We change based on our experiences and our relationships with others. These experiences and relationships affect our relationship with ourselves too. There is a saying that we are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Remember that you yourself are one of the five: forever and always.
Remember that we always have a path back to help us find ourselves again when we feel lost. The road may look different than what we have remembered but it will bring us back and give us that balance we may be seeking to have once again in our lives. Have faith and trust in the process. It’s about the journey, not the destination. You are your biggest advocate for becoming the change that you wish to be. You and only you. Don’t ever forget that.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your relationship skills?
