Becoming The Change: The Challenge Is To Be Whole, Not Perfect

“It’s a toxic desire to try and be perfect. I realized later in life that the challenge is not to be perfect. It’s to be whole.”

-Jane Fonda

One of the false and unattainable drivers that many people live by is the desire to be perfect. I am here to tell you this is a challenge you cannot win. And as legendary actress Jane Fonda points out, this kind of thinking and better yet, this way of life, is toxic. It is not healthy physically and especially not mentally. Our greatest wealth is our own mental health. To put such unnecessary pressure on yourself to be perfect is a waste of time.

Your time should be spent on becoming the best person you can be both inside and out. The challenge is as Fonda says is be whole. Each of us is on our own journey. A journey to discover who we truly are and what we can give back to others. Becoming whole is loving every aspect of ourselves: embracing our qualities and our limitations. It’s realizing that we are all each special and to me, knowing this is as perfect as we can ever get.
