Becoming The Change: Walking This Walk Together

“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.”

-Helen Keller

Often times I look at life as one long, adventurous walk. It has unexpected twists and turns but there is one thing that comforts me throughout this entire experience: I am never walking this walk alone. I am in fact walking this walk together. With whom you may ask? This is comprised of my family, friends, colleagues and anyone else who comes into my life. It reminds me of the movie Forrest Gump, where Forrest goes on a three year journey of running after the love of his life, Jenny, leaves him all by himself again. His journey of running across our country (several times in fact) began alone but soon others joined him. Why? Forrest inspired others through his actions. Those that followed him were willing to contend with whatever obstacles came their way because they were able to face it together; they were not alone.

Today’s quote from Helen Keller reminds us of the importance of having a system of support that showers us with all the love in the world. Togetherness is key to achieving that love. You have the chance to share this experience with others. This makes it so much more memorable. When we are together, we will feed off one another’s positive energy or vibes. When we are all alone, we just have us to contend with and/or lean on for that needed boost. The issue is that you might be energized or you might not be because it’s just you that is facing things with no one but you to lean on or encourage. If you take a moment to think back to all of the moments you have experienced in your lives, the good and the bad, more often than not it was not done alone. It was with others. No matter what, we must always walk this walk of life together because we are stronger together.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your relationship skills?
