“The most wasted of all days, is one without laughter.”
― E. E. Cummings
If you follow me anywhere on social media you will see my daily post that every moment matters and to make the most of your moments today. One of the most important emotions I believe you must experience each day is laughter. It not only brightens the day for others but also for yourself. As E.E. Cummings says in today’s quote, without laughter those days are wasted. They are in essence without. Let’s face it. The world can be a depressing place if we choose to view it that way between war, poverty, natural disasters, etc. However, if we try to look at things from a new viewpoint, one filled with joy and laughter, then the world would be, in my opinion, become much more doable. We can never control the outside factors but we can choose on how we respond to them.
Often times my family, friends and I reminisce about memories that bring forth that laughter again from the first time we experienced it. No matter how many times we may tell the same story, it just never ceases to prevent us from laughing hysterically about that particular time. I often bring puns or Dad jokes frequently into conversations I have with others when it is appropriate or I feel is needed. I believe if we can get other people to laugh it just makes the world a better place. The late legendary coach Jim Valvano mentioned in a infamous speech he gave at the ESPY’s as he was battling terminal cancer:
“And when people say to me, “How do you get through life?” Each day’s the same thing. To me, there are three things we all should do every day. If we do this every day of our life, you’re going to … What a wonderful … Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think, you should spend some time in thought. And number three is you should have your emotions moved to tears. Could be happiness or joy, but think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.”
So make it a point to laugh and get others to laugh each day. We are all in this together.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self management?
