“Self awareness is the key to self-mastery.”

 Gretchen Rubin

At the heart of our moral compass is Self Awareness. It essentially is the table setter for the other 4 areas to function efficiently (Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, Responsible Decision Making). Knowing yourself and who you truly are as a person occurs when you are able to recognize your own emotions, thoughts and values. These attributes influence your behavior.

In today’s quote I agree that self awareness is a key to self mastery but I if I had to tweak it just a bit I think the prerequisite to self mastery is self discovery. From the time we are born and throughout our lives we are continuously learning more about what makes us who we are based on the various experiences we face day to day. I know that each day I am still learning something new about myself which is helping me on the path towards self mastery. It’s what makes life great.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self awareness?

  1. Learning to love who we are right now — the whole package, we gain wisdom and knowledge on our path to self mastery/awareness. Learning all the time.

    1. Nicely said. We need to love ourselves first.
