Is It Worth The Risk?

“If the risk is fully aligned with your purpose and mission, then it’s worth considering.”

-Peter Diamandis

Life can be full of risks, but choosing which risk to actually take is of utmost  important. Peter Diamandis, a Greek American engineer, reminds us that the risk we are deciding on whether to take or not needs to be one that coincides with whatever our purpose and mission is.

When we were teenagers and even in our early 20’s I’m sure we can admit we did some rather risky and unsafe things whether was to impress someone or do it on a dare. Most likely these didn’t have anything to do with our life’s mission or purpose. As we begin to discover who we actually are, what our interests are and what we believe in, our purpose and true mission becomes clearer. When we choose our career path or answer our calling that becomes one of greatest risks. It’s where we allow ourselves to be more vulnerable because we do not know whether it will work out or what the future holds.

Those that chose to be firefighters, police officers, medical professionals or enroll in the military make the decision that they want to serve their community, their country through helping and protecting others. They know the risk that they are taking each and everyday and that their lives are on the line each time they venture out. I admire their courage and it is evident how aligned their willing to risk their lives aligns with their mission and purpose. There are many other professions and just causes that also involve certain risks that are needing to be taken in order to achieve their mission or purpose. Think about the profession you are in and what those risks are. Do they align with your mission or purpose? If they don’t, this might be something you want to take the time to reassess. Risks only are worth taking when it is really necessary. And that is probably the hardest decision of all.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your responsible decision making skills?
