“Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.”
Today’s quote comes from author George Orwell’s book called 1984. The book was written in 1949 about the future and is about a man who loses his identity while living under a repressive regime. More specifically this man works for the government (which is a repressive dictatorship) and is tasked with the rewriting of history in a manner that casts his country’s leaders in a charitable light and no matter what he does Big Brother is always watching. This quote is one that focuses on the power of self awareness and how by being conscious and present in the moment can lead to change. I caution us all to be critical consumers as to what is presented on social media and in the news. By no means am I on the “fake news” bandwagon. What I am advocating for is that like the old adage says, “let’s take everything with a grain of salt.” Let’s do our own research and not always be quick to take everything that someone else says as the end all, be all. You are often hearing reporting from only one side, one perspective and not all. We cannot fall into the trap of being robots that just do and respond to things without taking into consideration our own thoughts, feeling or emotions on the matter at hand. Change can only occur once we recognize the need for change, the need for a rebellion—in this case and as it should be always, a peaceful one. When we are able to recognize how our thoughts influence our behavior we can be the change we wish to see in the world. It is time for us to wake up before it is too late.
