Lebanese-American writer and poet Kahlil Gibran’s quote for today reminds us that if we live a life without purpose and more or less “go through the motions” we become a stranger in our own lives. We therefore step out from life’s procession and it’s sense of order. We all go through patterns of this but once we become aware of it, we must make the effort to redefine our purpose and focus on moving forward down our own moral path.
The key to all of this is that when we step off of our own pathway is not to fall into despair. We may find ourselves lost at times or even on the sideline of our own life. There will also be times that we don’t need to follow the rest of the crowd either. And that’s ok. Think of it like when we went to school. All of us attended school to learn and grow. We all started on similar paths. When we reached middle and high school, the elementary procession that we were all once a part of changed and we soon developed new pathways to follow that best suited us and what we wanted to become when we got older. Our pathways changed again once we hit college or the career phase of our lives.
Each time we have changed course we’ve had to redefine our purpose. This shows that we are continuously growing and evolving. We just need to remember that when step off of our path temporarily to reassess things, we need to not remain idle on what our next move will be. We should remain focused and determined to choose our next course of action in life and what our new path will be to becoming our best selves.
