What Is More a Function Of A Success?

“Success is more a function of consistent common sense than it is of genius.”

-An Wang

When you think of people that are successful what may come to mind is that it is due in part of them being some sort of genius, that it comes rather naturally. They are looked upon as being gifted in a sense. And this may be true for some but not all people who are deemed a success. As Chinese–American computer engineer and inventor, and co-founder of computer company Wang Laboratories An Wang points out that success has a lot more to do with ensuring that we are consistently using our common sense in all we do.

I like to think at times we have the tendency to overthink things and this leads to us more or less making things more complicated for ourselves or others in the long run. When we use our common sense when assessing certain situations we use sound judgement in perceiving, understanding, and judging practical matters. People with common sense essentially have a knack for seeing things as they are, and doing things as they ought to be done. It’s just that simple.

Our moral compass is comprised of what we value most and serves as a guide with regards to to our own ethical behavior and decision-making skills. To me conducting ourselves in this type of manner is more or less a common sense type of behavior as well. I believe that our barometer of success is dependent upon on how much we allow our moral compass to lead the way. So let’s try not to overcomplicate things and just let our common sense lead the way towards future success.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards defining/refining your own moral compass?
