“We are true to our creed when a little girl born into the bleakest poverty knows that she has the same chance to succeed as anybody else.”
-President Barack Obama
According to the dictionary the word creed is a statement of faith or a belief in something and in today’s quote President Barack Obama reminds us that no matter what our circumstances may be if we believe in ourselves and what we are capable of we have the same opportunity or chance to succeed like anybody else. The example he uses is that of a little girl born into poverty who stays true to herself and believes that can and will overcome the hand she has been dealt. This is true for anyone and whatever their circumstances may be from poverty, being born with a disability, etc. It is that growth mindset that will lead us through whatever dark times may be in our way.
If we don’t faith or belief we then we have basically nothing to help us overcome the challenges we will face throughout our lives. There will be times when we feel like we have reach a level that seems rather bleak and it is important to recognize this and figure out a way to overcome it. This also can be when we see certain injustices occurring in our neighborhood or workplace where others have lost their faith or belief in themselves. It is up to us to be that beacon of hope for them; that encourager in letting them know they will rise above. It is when we take the time to help others that I believe our own creed strengthens as a result of our own good deed. Make sure to always look beyond your own lens.
