Discontentment Is Not A Bad Thing

“Were there none who were discontented with what they have, the world would never reach anything better.”

-Florence Nightingale

Discontentment. We have all experienced this and if you have never, as my Grandmother used to say to me when I was less than truthful, “You are full of mahoofta!” Has every one of your hopes, dreams and desires come true? I’m sure they haven’t. But I’d like to think that if we were never discontented with where we are or what we have then we’d never push ourselves towards being our best selves. Today’s quote from the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale who supports this way of thinking. And really when you look at where we are today technology wise as compared to 100 or even 50 years ago, we continually reached for things to be even better in this realm.

Remember that when we are self aware we are able to recognize where we stand as individuals and as a society. We also recognize when something needs to be changed. The question is are we ready and willing to do something about it? I think we need to turn our focus on ourselves and our own mental health and well being. Between all that we have been through over the past year with the pandemic, racial tensions and political strife it is time to focus on healing. Healing ourselves. Healing our relationships with others. Working together for a better future for all people, not just now but always. We see the writing on the wall. It can no longer be ignored. So let’s do something for our children’s sake and their children’s sake. The world can only become better when we become better ourselves. Together.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self awareness?
