Our Moral Compass Podcast (Episode 374): Intelligence And Ability Go Hand In Hand

Welcome to the Our Moral Compass Podcast. Intelligence And Ability Go Hand In Hand

“Intelligence is quickness to apprehend as distinct from ability, which is capacity to act wisely on the thing apprehended.”

-Alfred North Whitehead

Intelligence is more than being just book smart. Often times those that are book smart rarely apply what they learn to real world situations. When this happens things become stagnant. So in order for us to take advantage of the new knowledge we have acquired we must go out there and apply it. In today’s quote by Mathematician Alfred North Whitehead shows us that what we learn, and then what we would do with it, therein lies what true intelligence is. Acquiring knowledge and realizing it is that self awareness piece whereas applying it is the self management piece of the intelligence puzzle. In essence it is a package deal.

Take a moment and think about all of the things you and I have learned about in our lifetime so far. It is a lot of information! But the question is how much of it have we actually applied to things within our lives? If you are like me, probably not as much as we would have liked to. For me this quote serves as a wake up call that if we don’t use it, and in this case it is this new knowledge we acquire, we will for sure lose it. So if we are taking the time to acquire it, we need to take the time to apply it. This will not only benefit ourselves but quite possibly benefit others. We have this opportunity that is within our control and it’s time for us to use it.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
