Our Moral Compass: Be The Light And Let Love Lead The Way

“Darkness cannot drive our darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that.”

-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

For every nightfall there is a sunrise. The darkness of the night sky can only be replaced by the morning light. Darkness can also be a feeling or an emotion that can be replaced by the light representing one’s actions. The same can be said for love driving out hate. In today’s quote Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. reminds us in a time where we continually face some dark times with regard to the pandemic and the political unrest and injustice we are facing. However, we can be a part of that light to lead us and others out of darkness by coming together and doing what is right for the greater good.

We must never forget that for every dark day, there will be a new horizon, a new opportunity. Love is a powerful emotion and if we lead with it and give it to others unconditionally, then I believe hate will be nothing more than a bad habit. I have to believe this, for the sake of the children I have the honor of serving within my school and my own daughter. We are in a world that needs more love than ever before. We must do our part ensuring that it spreads and overpowers the hate that is out there. You see, the light is within each of us and it is our turn to let it shine brightly together with one another. Tomorrow can be a dawning of a new, better day if we allow it to be.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards becoming more socially aware?
