“Compassion is a power that we first bestow on ourselves and then give away through our actions-to people, to our planet. When we recognize this, that is when our love becomes our legacy.”
We all here about the need to leave our legacy. Now this goes beyond the official definition that it is the amount of money or property left to someone in a will. As we know both are limited. However the type of legacy that American poet and speaker Amanda Gorman refers to is that of our love. Love has no limits, no true beginning or end. It just is. It is within us and flows through us. In today’s quote Amanda Gorman says that compassion begins within ourselves and once we allow this to take over we are able to give that compassion to others by the things we do for others and even our planet. This is love. Although we will not live forever, what we have done for others will. It is all within our control.
One of Amanda Gorman’s inspirations was Maya Angelou, her famous poems or quotes and the messages behind them. This one on is a quote on love and the beauty and power behind it:
“Love recognizes no barrier. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.”
