Becoming The Change: Forgiveness

“Forgive, forget. Bear with the faults of others as you would have them bear with yours.”

-Phillips Brooks

As Samantha James from the movie Just Friends once sang, “Forgiveness, is more than saying sorry.” In today’s quote American clergyman and author Phillips Brooks reminds us that we need to remember to try not only to forgive but also forget. I know the latter is harder and it all depends on what actually occurred involving the other person. It is the second part of his quote that I hope you would pay particular attention to. Remember that we all have our own faults and we’d want others to be able to forgive us as well as forget what we may have done.

It truly is within our decision making capabilities and like I mentioned earlier, it most certainly will depend on what harm they may have done to you or a loved one in order for you to bestow the forgiveness and forgetting package deal. We just need to keep in mind, would we like the same grace and compassion bestowed on us if the shoe was on the other foot? Only we can make this decision and no one else.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your responsible decision making skills?
