“Going high does not mean putting on a smile and saying nice things when confronted by viciousness and cruelty. Going high means taking the harder path. It means scraping and clawing our way to that mountain top.”
-Michelle Obama
If someone goes low you go high. Isn’t that what we are taught when faced with adversity or strife? Well that is what essentially Former First Lady Michelle Obama says in today’s quote. Unkind people unfortunately exist in this world and will do what they can to tear others down in order to make them feel better about themselves. Putting on a brave face, or as she says putting on a smile and saying nice things doesn’t make the hurt you may feel at the hands of someone else go away. The pain will be there. The challenge is to take that pain and channel it towards taking that road that is less traveled. Go high and take that harder path, the one with all of those peaks and valleys. Life was never meant to be an easy climb. If we want something bad enough it is up to us recognize those barriers and alone with the naysayers and realize it is really their own issue, not yours. Stay the course.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards becoming more socially aware and making responsible decisions?
