Welcome to the Becoming The Change Podcast. Each daily reading focuses on a different quote on how we can best apply it to our own moral compass and one of the five areas in Social Emotional Learning: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills and Responsible Decision Making. Having Patience In Things That Remain Unsolved
“Have patience with everything, that remains unsolved on your heart.”
-Rainer Maria Riler
Patience is a virtue. I am sure whether you wanted to hear this statement when you were growing up or not, more than likely it was probably said. In today’s quote German poet Rainer Maria Riler goes a little further in encouraging us to use more self control when trying to have patience with those things that may seem unresolved in our hearts. This can be but not limited too a falling our of sorts with a family member or friend or even stressors that are even beyond our own control.
I was able to find his entire quote as I think it is important to capture the full meaning behind the snippet that was given above:
“I beg you, to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.”
I think once reading the entire quote I was able to see that he is basically implying that everything is revealed in due time and is important to not dwell on these issues but to live in the now. In doing so, you live your life as you see best and in the end those unresolved issues will soon have an answer.
There are four tips that I have found useful when faced with the challenges of remaining patient that may help you too:
- Make Yourself Wait. The best way to practice patience is to make yourself wait. …
- Stop Doing Things That Aren’t Important. …
- Be Mindful of the Things Making You Impatient. …
- Relax and Take Deep Breaths.
It all comes down to managing yourself and doing things to the best of your ability. By no means is it easy but so long as you have a plan in place you are halfway there to embracing patience.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
