Welcome to the Becoming The Change Podcast. Each daily reading focuses on a different quote on how we can best apply it to our own moral compass and one of the five areas in Social Emotional Learning: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills and Responsible Decision Making. Thank you for listening and we hope you consider subscribing to the podcast for future episodes.
True Peace
“True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.”
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
According to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in order to have true peace there must be a presence of justice. He even goes on to say that is isn’t due to absence of tension. I believe for any peace to occur there has always been an underlying amount of tension within any given situation.
In the fall of 2020 The Mission Post listed several ways in which we can work towards peace and justice in today’s world:
- Use your voice. Sometimes all it takes to begin building a more peaceful and inclusive society is for one person to take a stand for what is right.
- Support others in need. Make sure to help lift the spirit of others by being their advocates for a just cause.
- Volunteer at a local food bank or soup kitchen. By extending a helping hand you are helping to make this world a better place.
All it takes is for one person to start a movement and then together we can overcome anything and instead of just surviving, we will be thriving.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards becoming more socially aware?
