Becoming the Change: It Is All Within Us

“Self-control is strength. Calmness is mastery. You have to get to a point where your mood doesn’t shift based on the insignificant actions of someone else. Don’t allow others to control the direction of your life. Don’t allow your emotions to overpower your intelligence.”

-Morgan Freeman

You’ve often seen write or say that the only limits we have are the ones we put on ourselves. This statement is attributed to podcaster Yogi Roth. When we stop to think about things not only is he right but we have a lot more strengths than we realize once we recognize the power of self management is within each of us. As legendary actor Morgan Freeman says in today’s quote he mentions self-control and calmness and refers to the word mastery in reference to calmness. It is a skillset acquired over time and through the many experiences we encounter.

When we do not allow others opinions and/or actions to negatively affect us and we as they say “stay the course” we control the narrative or our own lives and no one else. Remember intelligence is not just referring to the learning from a book, seminar or podcast it is also the emotional intelligence we acquire as we learn more about ourselves and what makes us tick. Once we learn this, think of how empowered we will be become.

Obstacles that once would have had us affect us in ways in which we may have given up, no longer have that affect. We recognize that this will only make us stronger in the long run. Opinions are not facts. They are beliefs that others believe in based on their experiences or inexperiences. They have not lived your life so they should not place judgement. We only give them as much power as we think they deserve and to be honest, most times it doesn’t. We are so much stronger than we think when we are in the driver’s seat of our own lives.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
