Our Moral Compass: One Of Our Most Courageous Acts

“To overcome our challenges, all that is required is the courage to ask for help.”

-Simon Sinek

Nelson Mandela once said this about courage: “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” It is the important to remember that the courage we all desire to have is within each of us and sometimes courage can be shown just simply by asking someone else for help. For many of us this is very hard to do. Whether it is a pride thing and by asking for help may be a sign of showing a weakness or being incapable of doing a task when we try to avoid asking for her help we only wind up hurting ourselves in the long run. However, as Brene’ Brown has often spoken and written about, asking for help is a sign of being vulnerable and that is perfectly ok. So when we want to do the thing we don’t necessarily want to do to get to do the thing we do want to do we are in essence as she puts it “embracing the suck.” Hence this is what we do when we finally decide to ask for help.

On couragecrusade.com they list 10 reasons we should ask for help more often. I think these can help us build up our courage in asking others for help:

1. You won’t get far without it

2. The right people will respect you for it

3. You’ll get better at it each time

4. You’ll be helping THEM feel good!

5. You’ll see who really cares about you

6. It can help you from spinning your wheels

7. You might make a new friend

8. It can decrease stress

9. Einstein would love it

10. It helps you stop procrastinating

We cannot do everything on our own. We need others. We need their help. Make sure to rely on those around you when you need it most.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards defining/refining your own moral compass?
