Becoming the Change: Choosing What To Focus On

“When we focus on the competition, we become reactive. When we focus on improving ourselves, we become innovative.”

-Simon Sinek

The decisions we make are all within our control. This even includes, as Simon Sinek says in today’s quote what we focus on. What we focus on we give more power to. Often times we even focus on the wrong thing. In this case competition. This can be with others or even with ourselves. When this happens we lose sight of what truly matters and we have the tendency to become more reactive. If you have experienced moments of being reactive, which I am sure you have, the results more often than not have not been that good.

Now innovation lies within those moments we focus on improving ourselves. When we do this, it becomes the barometer of all things that are measured when we try to become our best selves. We need to realize that we choose whether to focus on a path that brings forth chaos and uncertain reactions by others based on our own reactiveness towards many of the situations we really have no control over or we can choose to focus on what we can control which is ourselves. The choice is ours and ours alone to make. It is my hope that we choose the latter.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your responsible decision making skills?
