Being Happy

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

-John Lennon

Why is that we as adults think we know more about life than our children do? Is it because we are a little more seasoned or long in the tooth as they say? Perhaps, but I don’t necessarily agree with this line of thinking because as we grow up we lose a sense of innocence in how we look at life. In today’s quote musician John Lennon reminds us that the key to life is within all of us if we take the time to recognize that happiness is really all that we need. I think the example he gives of his assignment in school and what his interpretation of it was perfect, original and heartfelt. Growing up doesn’t always mean what we do with our lives but rather who we are. And what’s wrong with being happy? Absolutely nothing. Life is what we make it. So let’s try to make it a happy one.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self awareness?
