Failure Leads To Success
“I’ve miss more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
-Michael Jordan
So one of the greatest mysteries in life is determining what breeds success within each and every one of us. Some say grit or perseverance while others may have different ideas or revelations. For me, legendary basketball player Michael Jordan said it best in today’s quote when he said essentially that he succeeds because of his failures. When I look back at my life this is more true than I even realized. The number of Assistant Principal jobs I applied for before having a Principal willing to take a chance on a rookie. Over 40 rejections from publishers before having a publishing company roll the dice and sign me to a publishing contract. These are just some of many successes I have personally achieved despite the failures I endured to have my day in the sun so to speak. I really wasn’t really aware of this until now. It is most gratifying but is something that continues to drive me in raising that proverbial bar in reaching my fullest potential.
Jordan’s examples of shots missed, losses and game winning shots missed is a testament to that drive he had then as he does today. His failures drove him to his successes. They fueled his fire. My hope is that it will do the same for you as it did for him and me. There is greatness inside each of us. We just need to look within ourselves, recognize it and celebrate how far we’ve come. We are all on the road to awesomeness.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self awareness?
