Becoming The Change Podcast (Episode 700): Just Be

Welcome to the Becoming The Change Podcast. Each daily reading focuses on a different quote on how we can best apply it to our own moral compass and one of the five areas in Social Emotional Learning: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills and Responsible Decision Making. Thank you for listening and we hope you consider subscribing to the podcast for future episodes.

Just Be

“You don’t need to DO more to BE more. Be more present. Be more authentic. Be more grounded. Be more connected. Be more creative, etc. BE MORE and let the DOing flow from there.”

-Michael Gervais

We often think that the more we do in life the more we will become our greatest self. This is not necessarily the case as High performance psychologist and podcast host Dr. Michael Gervais points out in today’s quote. Instead of trying to do more, be more. He suggests that we need to be more present. Present in our conversations with others, engaged in the task at hand and essentially being all in.

Being authentic is being genuine: what you see is what you get. This includes the best and worst of you. Both being present and authentic leads to us becoming more grounded which further builds the relationships we have with others and with ourselves. It even allows our creativity to develop for all the world to benefit from. Just changing that mindset from doing things which is external to being more which is internal will help achieve our goals in life two fold.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
