As an administrator, always remember to lead with heart. Stay grounded in your purpose—the very reason you chose this path in the first place: to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. In the midst of daily responsibilities, decisions, and challenges, never lose sight of that calling.
Hold tightly to your teacher roots and where your journey began. Those experiences shape your empathy, your perspective, and your ability to connect with those you serve. They remind you that every decision you make ultimately impacts real people—students, families, and fellow educators.
Recognize that schools are only as strong as the culture that exists within them. A positive, supportive, and inclusive culture does not happen by accident—it is nurtured intentionally. Regular “temperature checks” on your school’s climate are essential. Listen actively to staff, students, and families. Seek feedback, reflect honestly, and adjust as needed. These practices ensure that you are leading in a direction that aligns with the needs and values of your community.
Never underestimate the power of appreciation. Small, intentional acts—whether a handwritten note, a thoughtful email, or a few sincere words—can make a lasting impact. Let your staff, students, and families know they are seen, valued, and appreciated. These moments build trust, strengthen relationships, and reinforce a culture of care.
Commit to fostering a culture of collaboration. Meaningful change does not happen in isolation. Include others in the decision-making process, especially when creating and implementing schoolwide initiatives. When people have a voice, they develop a sense of ownership—and that is where true progress begins.
Above all, be authentic. Model the values you wish to see in others. Lead with integrity, compassion, and humility. Embrace the role of a servant leader—someone who leads not for recognition, but to uplift and empower those around them. When you lead with love and serve with intention, you create a ripple effect that extends far beyond your school walls.
Stay true to your purpose, nurture your people, and never forget the impact you have.
Sincerely,
A Servant Leader
