Welcome to the Our Moral Compass Podcast. “There is a destiny which has the control of our actions, not to be resisted by the strongest efforts of Human Nature.”
Destiny. Its a word that possesses a lot of power not only behind it but within it. People say it is what is meant to be or is written in the stars. In essence it is our inescapable fate. I think destiny is another way to look at what our moral compass is all about. Take for instance in the TV series Smallville that for a decade running chronicled the life of Clark Kent from his time in high school to the first time he donned his red cape as Superman at the conclusion of the series. From the moment he arrived on planet Earth, he exhibited certain feats throughout the run of the show where you just knew he was destined for greatness. During this same time within the series Superman’s soon to be arch enemy Lex Luthor no matter what he did to try and avoid going down a dark path succumbed to his destiny of being the villain in the end. Now this example was all fantasy but is can it be true in our own reality? Perhaps.
In today’s quote George Washington says that our destiny controls our actions and that not even the strongest efforts from Mother Nature can basically stand in its way. I actually disagree with the first part of the quote however. I believe we control our own actions and that although destiny may play a part in guiding us towards those actions we chose, it does not drive it solely. Our actions create our own destiny. If we choose actions that are for the greater good and they are ones that help others then our destiny will become a promising one.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards defining/refining your own moral compass?
