Don’t Be A Flat Tire
A bad attitude is like a flat tire. You can’t go anywhere until you change it.”
My Mom was recently in the tire shop when she saw today’s quote and passed this along to me. I think it is great that a tire shop would have this quote hanging up in their office for the obvious humor factor but its message is a powerful one to boot. It is something that I think serves as a good visual for us for when we get into those sort of funks from time to time where we just feel deflated (no pun intended) with life or whatever we are currently going through.
The connection of this quote to how we self manage our emotions, thoughts and behaviors is one that to me exhibits perfect alignment to today’s takeaway message. When a tire is fully inflated it is fully functionable and is able to help whatever it is attached to move. When it is flat, whatever it is attached to prevents that object from moving. I realize that this an obvious observation but hear me out. If we are to relate a tire to ourselves and our own personality, when we have a positive and growth mindset type of attitude we have the self confidence and ability to do anything we put our mind too. Our attitude affects our well being and those that interact with us. We are that inflated tire: productive, helps to keep that object moving forward and for this analogy that object is us. Now when we feel miserable and exhibit a fixed mindset, we project a negative attitude that also affects our well being and those that cross our path in a bad way. We are that proverbial flat tire. We prevent us from moving in the right direction or in any direction. We become stuck. Unless we decide to change our attitude or for the purposes of today’s writing, our tire, we will go no where and are at the end of the day ultimately hurting ourselves.
We need to remember we only travel down this road of life once and we have a choice to make: do we want to stay on the shoulder of that road and continue to wait for that imaginary AAA to fix that tire or will we reach a point that the only way we can have it changed is if we do it ourselves. So change that flat tire and that fixed mindset. Reach into the trunk of your mind and put on that high performance tire, which promotes that growth mindset. You owe it to yourself to get back on the road to becoming the best you can be.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
