What Is Needed Most By Others In Order To Support Someone In Finding Their True Destiny

“Every man is working out his destiny in his own way and nobody can be of any help except by being kind, generous, and patient.”

-Henry Miller

Aretha Franklin was well known for her song Respect and I think American writer and artist Henry Miller essentially is asking that we show this towards one another by being kind, generous and patient. It is easier said than done I realize but aren’t most things? Each of us has our own destiny to achieve and although this quote mentions only man this I know this goes for women too. It is in our nature or should be to help others that we feel may need our assistance. But there are times where that person we are trying to help would rather do things on their own.

This is often hard if you are a parent and your child, with whom you have helped develop into the young man or woman that they have become to be and all of a sudden they tell you that they want to do whatever they are trying to whether it be to apply for a job or buy a house, on their own. The words may sting a little but like we all must realize at one point or another, there comes a time and place when they need to spread their wings and learn to fly. If they falter we will be their to catch and guide them. We just need to continue to love them and practice patience.

I think being kind, generous and patient are the keys to truly being empathetic with one another. When we allow ourselves to take a step back and we are able to look at things from their perspective and realize that they may not need someone telling them what they should or should not do but rather show them the support they deserve by encouraging them through positive talk. Showing someone grace and compassion can be the most generous gift that anyone could ever receive. Everyone does not follow the same path as you and I. It does not matter how we all get there, so long as that we do, at own pace and our own time. Destinies are achieved and become a reality once we learn that we sometimes need to cheer from the sideline in order to help someone cross the finish line.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards becoming more socially aware?
