Leaders Empower Others
“As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others.”
-Bill Gates
American business magnate, software developer, and philanthropist Bill Gates’ quote on what type of leaders we will need in the 21st century are those that empower others. When we empower others we instill within them the power or authority to do something and in this case it is the hope that that something will have a positive impact on the world.
There was a blog by EdClues a few years back that I read that discussed the five kinds of empowerment skills and based on what I read these are skills that will further strengthen us and our moral compass. The five kinds of empowerment are:
- Life Coping Skills-these are natural things we do to survive everyday life from running a simple errand, obeying laws and authorities to avoiding conflicts. We essentially adapt and adopt based on our experiences.
2. Manipulative Skills: These are seen in skills acquisition centers involving economic activities that instill an attitude, idea or habit through consistent instruction. Examples of this range from enhancing your technological abilities to towards trades like building, welding or carpentry.
3. Intellectual Skills: These are skills are coordinates in character which guide all aspects of how we work and what allows the other skills to function.
4. Communicative Skills: These are skills are of the utmost important and affect all aspects of our lives. It assists the intellectual skills to be expressed adequately and specifically. In order to transfer skills to people, one needs to have good communicative skill.
5. Artistic Skills: These are skills are similar to communicative but at a deeper level. It’s focus is around the art of good writing and fine arts which help further enhance the other four skills already mentioned.
When we use these empowerment skills to influence others it empowers us as well.
