“Not to do anything that is evil, To do all that is good, To thoroughly purify the heart: That is the teaching of Buddhas.”
-The Dhammapada
As we all know, it is up to us and how we manage ourselves as certain circumstances arise. In today’s quote from The Dhammapad, which is a collection of sayings of the Buddha in verse form and one of the most widely read and best known Buddhist scriptures, the philosophy of the buddhas is for us to do good, refrain from doing anything that would be deemed evil. In doing so we will throughly purify the heart. Sounds simple enough right?
When things are going our way in life this seems like an easy task. However there will be times where we will be challenged to do the right thing even when we are tempted not to. That is where we need to recognize these potential slip ups beforehand in order to auto correct ourselves and essentially change course as the consequences for not doing so could be detrimental others or ourselves for that matter.
It is important for us to stay true to who we are, our values and/or principles and what we stand for. When we become more conscious of our purpose and our why, I believe we are on course for purifying our hearts.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
