Our Moral Compass: Everything Is Within Your Own Control

“Self-control is strength. Calmness is mastery. You have to get to a point where your mood doesn’t shift based on the insignificant actions of someone else. Don’t allow others to control the direction of your life. Don’t allow your emotions to overpower your intelligence.”

-Morgan Freeman

There are many things in life that are out of our control except for one thing: yourself. Legendary actor Morgan Freeman reminds us of this in today’s quote. Being in control of ourselves and our actions is where true strength comes from. When we are able to channel a certain calmness we achieve an inner peace which shows how we master our self management skills. What gets developed over time is a realization that our mood should never change based on someone’s inconsequential actions because as we know we cannot control others and their emotions. Their actions should not even affect ours and how we conduct ourselves. We are responsible for the direction in which we want our life to go. We are in the driver’s seat so to speak and we remember to keep our emotions in check, self management becomes an asset instead of a liability.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
