“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”
-Confucious
In one of the Batman movies starring Christian Bale he said to Michael Caine who played his Butler Alfred:
Bruce Wayne : I wanted to save Gotham. I failed.
Alfred Pennyworth : Why do we fall sir? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.
What a profound statement by Alfred. We fall so we can learn to pick ourselves up. That is one of life’s greatest lessons. This is what Chinese philosopher Confucious said centuries ago and is the focus of today’s quote. We rise back up from falling because we choose to do so. We. Choose. It. The question is how do we pick ourselves back up when we encounter rough times? On sarahscoop.com there was an article written on ways in which we can do just that:
Talk About Your Problems
Recognize That Your Feelings Are Valid And That They Won’t Last
Keep Yourself Energized
Get The Right Amount Of Rest
Think About What’s Going Well In Your Life Right Now
Go To Work On Yourself
Exercise
Do Something To Keep Yourself Busy
All of these can help you through those tough times but it all comes down to us choosing to get back up. Fight the good fight. As author, speaker and podcaster Trenton Shelton says, “It all starts with you.”
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your responsible decision making skills?
