Why We Are Put On This Earth
“We are not put on this earth to accumulate victories and trophies and avoid failures, but rather to be whittled and sandpapered down until what’s left is who we truly are.”
-Arianna Huffington
Why were we put on this earth? Why is it that we exist? What is our true purpose? If you were to ask Greek-American author, syndicated columnist, and businesswoman Arianna Huffington these questions as seen in today’s quote it is not receive certain alcollades and avoid times when could fail but to become what we were destined to be as a person. Our legacy is who we wind up becoming when our life is said and done.
Her quote puts forth an image in my mind that when we start our lives we are all like a block of wood: no definition, no character. As we experience life, that block of wood begins to take shape. This happens as certain tools like a chisel of sandpaper help to carve and shape the wood. Those tools are actually the experiences that help to shape us. They, like our moral compass, guide us in shaping us into being who we are destined to become. And the work of art, ourselves, is not ever finished until our final day comes here on Earth. It is then that we are left to become our true self. Our own masterpiece.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards defining/refining your own moral compass?
