It’s Okay To Be Green
“As long as you’re green you’re growing, as soon as you’re ripe you start to rot.”
-Ray Kroc
It’s not easy being green. Isn’t that what Kermit from the Muppets used to sing on the Muppet Show or one of the Muppets Movie? In today’s quote American businessman and leader of the Global franchise McDonald’s Ray Kroc essentially says it is easy to be green. In fact it is encouraged.
As we all know when we drive a car and when we are stopped at a traffic light, we are waiting for the light to change to green. And the color green means “go” which prompts us to continue on our journey towards our destination. It also is where we and any other cars around us all start at the same time from that same point. I look at this and compare it to ourselves in being able to go and grow in whatever interests us in life; anything that is new.
Ray Kroc reminds us that being green is being new to something and it is not a bad thing at all. We want this. We need this. I’m in my 24th year in education and I am still growing each and every day. When I reach a point where I feel that I can no longer grow that is when I will consider myself ripe in this profession like is mentioned in today’s message. The problem with this line of thinking, as we know it is with fruit becomes ripe, they then start to rot. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to get to that point ever. If I do then it is time for me to pursue a different profession and right now there is so much more for me to learn, grow and give.
So let’s make a commitment to ourselves to remain forever green and constantly learn and grow in our profession and for that matter personally and emotionally as well. Let’s become part of Team Kermit: Being green is keen.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
