What Can Be Controlled

“There is no such thing as time management; there is only self-management.”

Rory Vaden

We have all heard the phrase “Time flies when you are having fun.” The question is while time was flying by were you productive? This is not just related to work or tasks needed to be completed at home for others but even doing something for yourself in self growth or serving others like at a soup kitchen.

Today’s quote resonated with me as I have spent most of my life working on the infamous time management piece which my success rate has been very inconsistent. Somedays I am very productive and other days I don’t know where the day has went and have nothing to show for it. In retrospect I realize time is constant which needs nothing to keep it from progressing (it just happens) whereas self-management starts and stops with us: we choose to use the time allotted wisely and be productive or spend a half hour on social media/watching TV producing no content.  I now focus on self-management and laying out certain daily priority tasks or like Michael Hyatt has suggested “the big three” and have found my productivity increase.

Focus on what you can control, which is yourself and see your productivity soar.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your self management skills?
