Becoming The Change: Be A Good Judge of Character

“You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who can do nothing for them.”

-Malcolm S. Forbes

Never judge its book by its cover. Isn’t that how the saying goes? Well it holds true in today’s quote by American entrepreneur Malcom S. Forbes. He once said we can judge the character of others by how they treat those that can do nothing for them and he couldn’t be more right. I want you to be very observant today in all of the places you go and people that you see. Watch how they interact with others. People they know and those they don’t. Is there a difference? If there is, there shouldn’t be. Everyone should be treated the same: with kindness and with love.

However, I do disagree with the latter part of Forbes’ quote about even if they can do nothing for you. I think anyone can do something for you. What if you are having a terrible day where nothing has gone right? All it would take is for some to flash a smile or say a compliment and that may put you back in the right frame of mind. To say a random person can not do something for you is like saying there is nothing they can contribute; that they have no value. Everyone can contribute something and everyone has value. Our character is our legacy. We create this. We live it. We choose to recognize others. Our character evolves through our moral compass.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards defining/refining your own moral compass?
