Becoming The Change Podcast (Episode 611): Honor Others By Putting Them First

Welcome to the Becoming The Change Podcast. Each daily reading focuses on a different quote on how we can best apply it to our own moral compass and one of the five areas in Social Emotional Learning: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills and Responsible Decision Making. Thank you for listening and we hope you consider subscribing to the podcast for future episodes.

“It is a luxury to put our interest first. It is an honor to put the interest of others before ourselves.”

-Simon Sinek

When you think of the word honor what words come to mind? Admiration? Respect? Integrity? Honesty? Trustworthiness? Any of these descriptors can be used simultaneously to describe what honor means. To me when we perform a selfless act and put the needs of others before our own that is displaying honor. We are honoring others by our actions in our support of them in the good and the bad times. In today’s quote author and speaker Simon Sinek reminds us of this in that although it is easier to put the needs of ourselves first and in a sense is a sort of luxury, the real honor is in putting the interest towards the needs of others. If we all just took a moment to realize the power in serving others and the endless satisfaction that comes from it, the world would be a much better place to live in and build a beautiful future for generations to come.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards becoming more socially aware?
