Becoming The Change: Where Shame Truly Lies

“There’s no shame in failing, The only shame is not giving it your best shot.”

-Robin Williams

Shame can be a very powerful and negative feeling. We all have experienced it at one time or another. But as Robin Williams points out in today’s quote, it is truly within our own control to allow shame to truly rear it’s ugly head or not. Let’s face it. We have all failed at one time or another. It’s unavoidable just like getting the common cold. It is bound to happen sooner or later. When we fail we may feel disappointment or frustration. It is in our nature. But to feel shame is something we should not hang our heads as there is no embarrassment in failure. We are not robots. We are not perfect.

However, it is when we fail to give it our best shot as Williams puts it. this is when shame comes to the forefront. Nothing, and I mean nothing should prevent us from reaching for the stars at every attempt we take in life. As legendary basketball player Michael Jordan once said, “We miss 100% of the shots we don’t take.” Simple but true. Don’t fall into a pit of shame. Have no regrets and just go for it each and every day. Our moral compass is that beacon of hope that will help prepare and guide us towards reaching out highest potential. Trust the process. Trust yourself and your abilities.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards defining/refining your own moral compass?
