Practice Makes Improvement
“Everything we do is practice for something greater than where we currently are. Practice only makes for improvement.”
For as long as I can remember the phrase was always practice makes perfect. But for all the practicing I have ever done from sports to even what I do for a career I’ve been far from perfect. In today’s quote speaker and author Les Brown reminds us that practice only makes improvement in an effort towards becoming something greater than what we currently are. Perfection is a myth and is an unachievable goal. Besides I am getting more and more comfortable with my flaws as I get older. Besides it is what makes me, me. For example, I will never be one of those handy men who can fix just about anything. It is just a skillset I’ve never been able to acquire. It doesn’t mean I won’t try or watch a YouTube video to learn how to do something but I just know it is not something that is in my wheelhouse per se.
One thing I do do is practice my daily meditation, to be present and fully in the moment while doing it. Some days are better than others with my focus but I continue to practice daily and I improve a little each time. Another thing I continue to practice with is writing these blogs. Sometimes the topic comes very easy to me and I get into a sort of flow or groove and other times its like be in the dentist’s chair during a root canal where it takes the ideas forever. Whichever way it happens to go becomes a new learning experience and an opportunity to improve in my craft in writing.
We are all destined for greatness. I’m sure of it. If we take to time to put forth the effort and be willing to try we will indeed improve. Just remember that perfection is an illusion while improvement is realistic and better yet achievable.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
