What Serves As Your Anchor

“Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing is my anchor.”

-Thich Nhat Hanh

Often times, as Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh points out in today’s quote feelings are very sporadic and come and go like the clouds often do on a windy day. It can truly serve as an emotional roller coaster. The difficulty lies in knowing how to control these various emotions when they unexpectedly sneak up on us. As it is pointed out, the one thing we can control is our breathing and in a way that serves as our anchor to righting out own ship where in this case, that ship is our own minds. We either control our emotions by doing this or it controls us. Which do you prefer?

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
