“Your body is holding all of this. Give it to a bigger body. Give it to the sky.”
-Jaiya John
Jaiya John’s words speak to a truth that every person eventually discovers: we were never meant to carry every burden alone. Life can be heavy. At every stage, there are decisions, responsibilities, worries, and uncertainties that demand our attention. As young adults, we may wrestle with questions about college, careers, relationships, and our future. As we grow older, those concerns often evolve into challenges involving family, health, finances, purpose, and legacy. The weight may change, but the reality remains the same. Life places demands on all of us.
The problem is that many of us try to carry everything by ourselves. We hold on to stress, disappointment, fear, regret, and uncertainty as if we are solely responsible for solving every problem that comes our way. Over time, those burdens can become overwhelming. They consume our thoughts, drain our energy, and rob us of the peace we need to move forward. When we attempt to carry more than we were designed to bear, we eventually find ourselves exhausted under the weight.
This is where Jaiya John’s message becomes so powerful. His words remind us that there are some things larger than ourselves. Whether we call it the universe, God, faith, destiny, or simply the natural flow of life, there are forces beyond our control. Wisdom comes from recognizing the difference between what we can influence and what we cannot.
Giving something to the sky does not mean giving up. It does not mean surrendering responsibility or avoiding difficult decisions. Rather, it means releasing our need to control every outcome. We still take action. We still do our best. We still show up each day with courage and determination. However, once we have done all we can do, we must learn to let go of the things that no longer belong in our hands. There is a profound sense of freedom in that realization. We do not have to carry every answer. We do not have to know exactly how every challenge will resolve itself. Sometimes our greatest strength is not found in holding on tighter but in trusting enough to let go. Faith is not the absence of uncertainty. Faith is moving forward despite uncertainty.
As George Michael sang, “You’ve got to have faith.” Whether that faith is in God, another higher power, the universe, or simply the belief that tomorrow can be better than today, it provides the strength to keep moving forward. When we release what we cannot control, we make room for peace, clarity, and hope. The burdens may not disappear entirely, but they no longer have to bury us. Instead, we can carry what is ours to carry and trust something greater with the rest.
Morning Reflection: Begin Your Day with Intention
What burden, worry, or uncertainty am I carrying that is draining my energy, and what would it look like to focus only on the part I can control today?
Evening Reflection: End Your Day with Insight
What happened when I released my need to control every outcome today, and how did that affect my sense of peace, perspective, or faith?
