Our Moral Compass: A Growth Mindset Is A Terrible Thing to Waste

     We all know that eating right and having some sort of exercise regimen to make sure you maintain a healthy lifestyle. But that is only one half of what you need to do for your own well being. Your mental health is just as important if not more important than your physical health. In my opinion if your head isn’t in the right place this will have an impact on where you want to be physically. It is all connected.

UCLA Women’s Basketball coach Cori Close reminds us of the importance behind treating our own mindset like a muscle by exercising it in order to strengthen it. The key to it all of this is that it is up to us choose to treat our mindset as such, like a muscle. This is a decision we can’t afford not to make as our own well being depends on it.

Some ways in which you can take that mindset and help to grow it into a positive one is by first and foremost acknowledging and embracing our imperfections. When you do this, it puts these out in the open and can give you the ability to face them head on and overcome them. Our brains are known for their plasticity and they aren’t fixed, and neither is our mindset. We have the ability to change our previous negative thinking and make it into something more positive.

We need to look at challenges we face in our lives more as opportunities for us to learn and grow. When we fail at something it isn’t really a failure. It’s more of a learning experience. It all comes down to perspective and how we look at things. The most important thing we need to keep in mind in order to maintain a growth mindset is remember our why, our purpose in life. When we know what that is and keep that mind, it will help us to overcome anything that comes our way. So make the choice to exercise your mindset as having a positive mindset is essential in reaching your full potential.
