What Leaders Do Best For Others

“Leaders lift. Look for opportunities to lift others up today. Help them rise to new heights.”

-Waldo Waldman

American author, motivational speaker and founder of the Wingman Foundation Waldo Waldman reminds us in today’s quote that the best way we can maintain healthy relationships with others is lift up others and help them reach new heights that they may never have thought to be possible before. This is part of what being a servant leader is all about: putting the needs of others first before your own and looking for ways to love and serve.

You do not need a title of a leadership role to be considered a leader. There will be times within business or life where someone that you care about will need you to step up and lead them through some rough times. When our number is called to lift others up there are some things we need to keep in mind in order to help them be all that they can be in their lives.

First and foremost we need to be accessible to others as much as possible. There will be times when someone needs you to talk them through a situation where they are feeling stuck and are not sure which way to go. Providing that outsider perspective may be a way you can help bring some clarity into their lives as to what they should do next. This doesn’t mean to necessarily tell them what to do but rather provide them options as to what their next move could be along with positives or negatives that may come along with the decision they are trying to make.

Another way you can lift someone else is just by showing that you have confidence and belief in their abilities. By encouraging them to take a risk to pursue their dreams or passions can go a long way. Also if you allow yourself to become fully engaged with what their interests are it shows how much you value them as a person and what you can learn from them. It helps to bring forth a higher level of humility and respect to your interactions with others which further strengthens your relationships with them.

Lifting up others begins with seeing the possibility of what could be and investing yourself in that relationship to help bring that potential out of them. Remember that in order to lift up others you need to set a positive example for them. In doing so this helps create a level of mutual respect within the relationship. Lifting up others helps to raise the bar for everyone involved: the ones that need to the bar raised and the one who sets up. This results with both sides coming out on top. The question that you need to ask yourself now is this: how far are you willing to go to bring out the best in others and help them reach their highest potential?

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing relationship skills in your own life?
