The Great Connector

“All rising to [a] great place is a winding stair.”

-Francis Bacon

The greatest benefit that relationships provide us is the ability to connect with others. With all that we have been through over the past few months between the pandemic and the racial injustice being witnessed, we need one another now more than ever. Francis Bacon’s quote for today reminds me that a winding staircase is like a strong relationship that can help us rise to a great place in life. And all this can be done together.

A winding staircase is often admired for its unique craftsmanship because and is known for its solid foundation and durability that can last for years. They are a small curved type of stair but can provide such an impact. I like to thing that each relationship we have has the potential to be its own unique winding staircase and serves as that great connector that helps us rise together to reach that place that we all seek to reach: a place where we can truly live in peace and harmony together.

Winding staircases are challenging to build and its important to be as precise as possible with its measurements and it takes time to get everything to fit just so. Relationships require that same type of time, precision and commitment on both parts of the people involved. This is anything but easy just like the same can be said for building that winding staircase. But once they are both built it is something that can bring forth for us much joy and satisfaction. So the next time you travel up a flight of stairs I hope you think about how that they are a lot like the relationships we have in our lives. They serve as a great connector to help us not only get us from point A to point B but more importantly, help us rise new heights as a united society together.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your relationship skills?
