Be Willing To Be Misunderstood

“I believe you have to be willing to be misunderstood if you’re going to innovate.”

-Jeff Bezos

They say that innovation is where imagination meets ambition. Founder, President and CEO of Amazon Jeff Bezos knows this more than anyone. His quote for today reminds us of this. Innovation in its simplest terms is that new idea, creative thought, or  imagination in the form of a device or method that is used to better the world. Often times those that are the innovators are the ones that are willing to be misunderstood by others in order to make their vision become a reality.

Now I could give you countless stories of many famous people that have done this very thing of being that innovator of change from Walt Disney to Steve Jobs or Coretta Scott King to Oprah Winfrey of how they were the innovators of their time. But I leave that up to you to read more about them. The question is what decisions have you been holding onto from making because you feared that others would misunderstand what your new idea was or what you are trying to create?

Time is short which is why you need to make the decision to innovate and not care what others think. This is your life and it is necessary that you make the most of it. You owe it to yourself. You owe it others. Heck you owe it to the world. Why hide behind the fear of being judged? Remember people fear change and most likely have fear themselves of being misunderstood. More than likely they have never attempted to be innovative because of that fear. So don’t hang back with the crowd because it is safe. If you know and believe in your innovation then that is all that matters, that you yourself is behind it. And that is all the matters. As Steve Jobs once said that “innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” So be the leader you were meant to be and innovate, innovate, innovate..

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your responsible decision making skills?
