What Gives You Happiness and Positively Impacts Others

“And it is your attitude, not your achievements, that gives you happiness and is contagious in its positive impact on others.”

-John Maxwell

Achievements are looked upon as certain milestones within one’s career or life. Some took little time to achieve while others may have taken years. These achievements may withstand the test of time and be remembered by your family members and friends as well as the kind of impact they had had on them. While I believe achievements are important and have their certain place in our lives, I think there is something that is longer lasting and has a much greater impact on all of us. It is our attitude.

American author and public speaker John Maxwell reminds us of the importance of our attitude, not our achievements is what will gives us happiness and can positively impacts others. The beauty that I see and my big take away from his quote is that our attitude and how we portray ourselves is entirely within our control while achievements are not. We control our thoughts, our emotions, our reactions. We have the opportunity to either promote positivity or negativity based on the attitude we choose. This can affect our relationships with others either for the greater good or for the not so good of the group.

Whether our attitude is positive or negative, it impacts and influences others that we associate ourselves with. And through their interaction with us, their attitude can affect others and so on. It becomes a domino effect. Why not choose an attitude of gratitude or an attitude that spreads happiness and cheer? Our world could use more people who spread a positive attitude and one that makes others feel that there is still good in the world. It starts with us and our attitude in making this all possible. We have that power within each of us.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
