Our Moral Compass: The Power From Within

“It doesn’t matter how strong your opinions are. If you don’t use your power for positive change, you are indeed, part of the problem.”

-Coretta Scott King

As we all know opinions are those views or judgments that are formed about something, not necessarily based on facts or knowledge. I may think that chocolate chip cookies are the best dessert in the world while you think Rocky Road ice cream is but those are just our opinions.. I may believe that equity is of utmost importance (which in fact I do) but that is just my opinion. Opinions are made based on our experiences, beliefs, bias and how we perceive things to be. American author and wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Coretta Scott King reminds us that no matter how strong our opinions are they are in fact just that opinions. It is the actions we take beyond our opinions that matter. And it those type of actions, ones where we use our power for positive change it is what is needed because if we don’t we are part of the problem.

Let’s face it. There are enough problems in this world without us adding more to them with negativity. Besides promoting negative change has never had a great track record for bringing forth anything but pain and more negativity. We need to make the conscious decision to be the one that use what we value and the skillsets we all possess for the greater good. We need to avoid the temptation of choosing a pathway that is self serving and choose one that serves others. Let’s bring forth that positive change that is so desperately is needed in our world. The choice is up to us.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your responsible decision making skills?
