Our Moral Compass: Know Your Song And Sing It

“A bird gets up every morning and sings its song. It does not wait to hear what other birds are singing, nor does it look to see if another bird is getting more notice. It knows its song innately and sings. This is nature: knowing your song.”

-Michele Oka Doner

Do what you do and don’t worry about anyone else. That is essentially what American artist Michele Ole Doner’s message is in today’s quote. Like a bird, we all have our own song, our own voice. We do not have to wait for permission to utilize it when we really want to as the only restrictions we have are the ones we put on ourselves. It doesn’t matter if it is our voice and our voice alone that we hear. We do not have to wait to “join the crowd” so to speak if it is something we strongly believe in. All a movement needs one person to act and one person alone.

For me I consider my voice to be what I write within this blog and speak within the Our Moral Compass podcast. It is through the tweets that I write on Twitter and what I speak when I am with my colleagues at work along with friends and family. I know my song, what I believe in and when it is the right time to use it. Do you?

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self awareness and managing yourself better?
