Our Moral Compass: Your Practice Is Your Life

“My life is my practice.”

-Ram Dass

American spiritual teacher, psychologist, and author Ram Dass’ quote is as simplistic as it is powerful: My life is my practice. Like a doctor’s practice is medicine or a teacher’s practice is education we all have a practice in common: and that is our lives. Whatever it is we decide to do with our lives it is up to us. I look at our practice as being our craft and not just what is done professionally but also how we conduct ourselves and interact with others on a day to day basis.

It is through our constant and consistent dedication to better ourselves that leads us to true growth. Its the hours be put in to further educate ourselves through what we read, what we listen to and better yet what we apply. When we apply it we not only teach others but we also relearn it again which in turn further embeds that into our psyche. Its a win-win system.

And remember that practice does not mean perfect it means improvement. We will never be perfect no matter how we try. Go for improvement. Improvement in your career or as a person, hopefully both. When we look as our life as being our practice we acknowledge that it is something that must be worked at each and everyday in order for us to get better at it. Remember this moving forward now and always.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
